Perhaps our ‘democracy loving’ Labour councillors in Egremont; could explain how even though she came last in the most recent public poll - by a notable margin - Elaine Woodburn is once again an Egremont Town Councillor.
No open election has taken place and it is understood there were 4 candidates for 2 vacancies, none of the candidates were given an opportunity to state their case before members took a secret vote. It is clear that the Labour cohort has chosen to go against the will of the people and co-opt a councillor that the people of Egremont have overwhelmingly rejected.
At the time the Whitehaven News wrote this about Woodburn’s defeat:
“In the North Ward of the town council, she polled last place with 180 votes - less than half of her nearest rival.”
Would the Labour Councillors provide us with the rationale; why have they co-opted a councillor the people democratically ditched? and why did the other candidates not present themselves to the Council?
